In my long stand against the spam from Facebook tagging...well, that's too big of a word since being an anti-social as I am, I don't have much volume in the internet to create change. Lets say I hate Facebook from not letting me filter out when friends are tagged by friend-of-friend because those friend-of-friend are spammers from my perspective.
Not to repeat the story, I kind of becoming a troll when I tried explaining that their method of promotion is causing disturbance to others.
The store kept on saying that it’s a justifiable act of selling. I tried explaining that their action of tagging is bringing collateral damage to peoples who don’t want to get the spam yet still getting it because of Facebook’s loophole in notification system.
Facebook had advertisement service if you want to sell things. But I would understand that what’s wanted is a free and targeted ads.
When peoples friended you, they will see everything you post in their News Feed even without the need of tagging. At least that’s how the some bigger more respectable Brands I followed has been doing their Facebook Page. Even the most spammy one would just send Message to all, not using the tag that will be pushed as spam to your Friend of Friend (arguably I’d instantly Unlike and Report as Spam if I met such Page).
Tagging thus become a way to force that update to their face through notification system. The catch, Friend of Friend will also be forced to look at it by default.
Yesterday, maybe I just snapped off more than usual. I finally found the nice allusion to this case, something that maybe those young activist souls would understand. They who stand in righteousness and justice and want to change the world to a better place.
Imagine being a passive smoker. The online stores are the tobacco companies. The smoke is the spams. Those friending the online stores are the active smokers. And their friend-of-friend who doesn’t enjoy the spams are the passive smokers.
The radical idea I read in my news feed before about telling those smokers to cover their head with plastic bag while smoking (please, die alone) is to set their privacy settings to keep those spams for themselves.
My words that time is still rough, but that’s the idea. I hoped this will reach the awareness, of the peoples indiscriminately following stores (instead of the store), knocking on their conscience by putting them in the shoes of those smokers they hated so much.
Happens that I got kicked out of there and blocked before any chance to hear the response. But from a chat in one of the participant’s personal wall post, I’m becoming a totally hated public enemy afterward :P
So, will it be fine for me to assume, those peoples who say “fuck off smokers, we want our fresh air” when they are not smokers will say “fuck off non-smokers, if you don’t like it, go somewhere else because we’re not forcing you to smell our joy” when they became a smoker ?
